The last day :(

Today we took our LED pens and tried to make them work. We got up the Wii remote and downloaded the software. That was easy. It was the bit afterwards that took time. But after a while and with help we got our touch screen monitor working. And then we tried to adapt out game to work with the new controls.
It messed up our game and we tried to make another one.
While eveyone was doing that Ieva was sitting here, keeping in touch with her inner writer and updated the blog and tell you about all we did this week. We had a great time and I hope you enjoy reading this!

Thursday, a.k.a. Day 3

On day 3 we took on our biggest project - we had to create a video game.
We had our idea already and it was to be a pig trying to eat oranges while being chased by aligators - Pacman style.
That didn't work out.
But we got our game close to what we intended. Aligators had to be compromised to evil flying hippos. Instead of Pacman we got something more like Snake. The pig was now wndering in space snatching oranges and getting bigger as it ate them. And when it touched the aligator it got small again and you had to go back to the start position. The game is called Spacepig.  It was a great game in the end, no matter what eveyone had to say about it.
William and Sean did the programming.
Ieva and Carrie did the sprites, the backgrounds and the soundtrack. We even got a victory fanfare.
And after lunch we had a go at seeing and playing everyone else's games. We were the only team that actually had time to make our game extra awesome and add an intro page. Because we were that good we had time to do level two as well. Which ended up being impossible to pass.

After that we moved on to our next project which involved a Wii remote and soldering. We made an infrared LED pen which can be used to make an interective whiteboard or monitor with the help of a Wii remote. We made the pen by soldering the wires in a circuit and had it working after we chaged the LED. We finished early and got to go home ahed of everyone else :D .

Wednesday, 2/2/2011 :)

On day 2 we had to program our Roverbots. Our mentors set up a race track that takes the robot around the world. Note to mentors: the South Pole is not between Africa and Europe :P . The robots have their own program and directions can be transferred to a computer that runs it. To make everything harder we were not allowed to simply tell the robot to 'Go forward' or 'Turn left' but we had to switch the power off on one side of the robot to turn it. A long process of trial and error followed in which we managed to kill the penguins several times :( . After we were done everyone got their chance to show off. Nobody got it right the first time. Our robot crashed and took part of the track with it but we got to the finish the second time. With a tiny bit of help :P .
Afterwards we sat down in our teams. We got a survival challenge. We had to put down numbers in order of importance on a list of items which can be used in a desert. Our team ended up 'very, very dead'. Then we got ourselves some whiteboards and had to figure our what certain scratch programs could draw. And then, we brainstormed.  We had to find solutions to a very important problem: 'What can you do with an orange?'. And that we did. Although in the end nobody suggested eating it :D. Then we talked about superheroes. It was to help us to come with ideas for tomorrow because we were going to do a game...

Day 1 :) Noname :D

On tuesday we were split into groups with people we didn't know.
First we were asked to build a robot out of Lego Mindstorms. (Our group finished first :D)
After this we set up our blog and uploaded photos of Bumblebee :P
Then we went for lunch
After lunch we were introduced to the scratch progamming system and made our first programmes.
We did this for the rest of the day...
